I have been teaching in the district for 20 years with a focus on reading, writing and student success. My goal as a teacher is to build student confidence with regards to critical thinking and critical reading in addition to developed writing skills.

Syllabus

Based on the NJ Student Learning Standards, it encompasses the areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing, and technology with a focus on universal and global awareness. Topics and literature will come from around the world and span time. Reading selections, audio-visual materials, classroom activities, and assessment tools are varied to accommodate all students.

Expectations: 

  • Bring proper materials to class

  • Treat those around you and the room with respect

  • Listen to instructions

  • Use class time productively and turn in assignments on time 

  • Make an effort

  • Technology use must be permitted by the teacher

  • AI will be used with Teacher discretion (Must adhere to Academic Integrity Policy)

CLASSROOM RULES/ EXPECTATIONS 2025/2026

  • Be in your assigned seat and ready to work when the period begins.  

  • Bring required books and materials (pen/pencil/notebook,laptop) to every class, unless told otherwise.

  • Listen carefully and stay seated when someone is speaking.  Always be respectful of others.

  • Follow directions the first time they are given.

  • Turn assignments in on time.

  • Treat everyone and their property respectfully.  Stay on task and always USE TIME WISELY!

  • Do not walk into class with headphones on, earbuds in, etc.  Walk in prepared, sit down and be ready to work.

Academic:

  • A notebook and folder are required for taking notes and keeping all assignments well-organized.

  • Maintain your daily journal (on Google Classroom) and stay up to date on it. It will be checked roughly every 10 entries and counts as a TEST GRADE!

  • Keep track of assignments on Google Classroom. Be aware of when assignments are due and submit them on time.

  • Genesis software is used to keep track of your grades. We will routinely (at least twice per trimester), perform Genesis check–ins which will count as a test/quiz grade.

  • The district stipulated grading policy will be implemented.

  • You will be kept informed of your current grade very frequently through Genesis online and it is your responsibility TO CHECK IT OFTEN.  

  • Always turn assignments in on time to earn the maximum amount of credit you possibly can.  

  • Have pride in your work.  Go the extra mile and give 110%.  We will notice!!!

Missing and/or late work:

  • If you're absent, it's YOUR responsibility to see me for missed work.

  • Attend Zero Per.

NOTE:  if you are out, check Google classroom, e-mail us, OR call your guidance counselor to collect your work so it can be picked up and brought home.   

  • Late work will be penalized

Attitude:A good attitude goes a long way.  Be prepared, positive and participate!  Class participation counts significantly toward your final marking period grade, too.   Ask questions, stay focused and on task, be respectful of others and their property and have a positive attitude.

Attendance/Class Participation: Poor attendance is reflected at marking period’s end via your class participation grade, as well as in daily activity grades and tests/quizzes.

Grading:  

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 70-79

D = 60-69

F = 59 and below

Academic Dishonesty/ Plagiarism: 

  • Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated.  A zero will be issued for the assignment for all involved, and a punitive component will be assessed per school policy.
