ACCOUNTING 1 | GRADES 10–12 | 5 CREDITS
This course introduces students to the fundamental accounting principles that include analyzing transactions, journalizing, posting and preparing financial statements. Students work with service and merchandising businesses. This course will provide students with skills that will improve their employability. Students will enhance their accounting knowledge with the use of the computer. They will be introduced to Excel and Peachtree Accounting software.
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND CAREER SKILLS

This course focuses on starting and managing your own business. The purpose of this course is to present the student with an understanding of what business is, how it operates, and how it is managed. The steps in completing a job search are stressed. Instruction is provided to build skills in areas such as career investigation, resume preparation, letters of application, interviewing and communication techniques, personal development and grooming, handling supervisory positions, and basic life skills. An interest inventory is completed. A look into the current market place and top careers are presented through video, existing information sources and guest speakers. Topics will include: business selection, business plan preparation, management skills, legal considerations, and marketing, sales, accounting, and personnel issues. Successful completion of this course will enable students to fulfill the financial literacy graduation requirement.
COMPUTING FOR COLLEGE | GRADES 11–12 | 5 CREDITS
This course is designed for the college bound student who has not taken Computer Applications I, or 2/3. Students learn the essential computer application skills necessary for college. Students will use Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint from Office 2007. Proper formatting of common documents will be presented with emphasis on college requirements. Scanners, digital cameras, and graphical manipulation will also be presented. Internet skills will be refined through investigating careers, colleges and scholarships and on-line research databases.
FINANCIAL LITERACY | GRADES 10–12 | 5 CREDITS
Are you prepared to make decisions on how you will earn money or how you will manage that money? Learn how to develop a personal financial plan and practice better money management for life! This course will help you become an informed consumer who is able to set goals, create and work with a budget, save and invest for the future, establish credit and use it wisely, understand banking services, buy cars and homes, secure your retirement, protect yourself against fraud, and insure what is important to you. Successful completion of this course will enable students to fulfill the financial literacy graduation requirement. The Internet, Microsoft Office and other computer applications will be used in class assignments.
FOUNDATIONS OF WEB DESIGN | GRADES 10-12 | 5 CREDITS
Web Page Design is an elective designed to offer students in the academic curriculum an opportunity to learn techniques in the field of web design. Students will learn how to utilize Dreamweaver to create web sites. Students will learn how to use style sheets, frames, and tables to outline and create pages. Concepts will be discussed on how to utilize Fireworks, Adobe, Shockwave, and Flash 4 in conjunction with Dreamweaver. Topics will also be discussed on how to work with layers, and ethics concerning web sites. Finally, E-commerce will be introduced as students further explore Web design and career opportunities associated with it.
OFFICE COMPUTER APPLICATIONS 1 | GRADES 9–12 | 5 CREDITS
Computers are presented as a common tool for school, business and careers. Common software applications are presented using Microsoft Office Professional 2007, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher. Emphasis is placed on proper formatting of documents. Students will become familiar with such common documents as: memos, letters, reports, (including MLA format) tables, mail merge, presentations, spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and database creation and management. Internet research skills will be enhanced. Digital cameras and scanners will also be used. Keyboarding techniques will be introduced. Students in this course are eligible to take the Microsoft office user specialist test for Word.
OFFICE COMPUTER APPLICATIONS 2/3 | GRADES 11–12 | 5 CREDITS
This course is designed for students to advance their computer application skills using common software. Students will advance their skills using Microsoft Word, Publisher, Digital Cameras, and Scanners. Students will advance their skills with creating and editing tables, charts, mail merge, newsletters, and editing pictures and documents. Students will create integrated projects using these acquired skills. Internet skills will be refined using advanced search techniques. Office Computer Applications 2 is offered during semester one and is the first part of a two-semester course. Office Computer Applications 3 will reinforce the topics learned in Computer Applications II and expand their computer skills in the following areas: Students will use Excel to create a spreadsheet, build, format,
and edit a worksheet. Students will create charts, graphs and automated worksheet tasks. Students will use ACCESS and Power Point to enhance slide shows, modify visual and picture presentation formats. Computer Applications III will provide students with the skills needed to pass proficiency tests and become user specialists. Students in this course are eligible to take the NOCTI test for Business Information processing and the Microsoft user specialist test for word and excel.
LAW | GRADES 9–12 | 5 CREDITS
This course teaches students their rights as citizens and consumers in the business sector. Emphasis is placed on their understanding of the court system, criminal and civil, legal contracts, credit, consumer law, and employment law. Students will become familiar with relevant laws and explore the applications of law both in business situations and in personal transactions. Discussions stress those legal topics that will be relevant to students such as: understanding a lease, renting or buying a home, buying and insuring a car, borrowing money and buying on credit.
STOCK MARKET AND INVESTMENTS | GRADES10-12 | 5 CREDITS
The overall goal of this course is to improve student financial literacy. This course is designed for students who wish to learn or expand their knowledge of the stock market, and investing and finance in the global economy. Students will learn how financial markets work, how to design a personal finance plan, how to select among saving and investment options, how to locate and use financial data, protecting assets, and how to recognize and protect against investment fraud. In this class students will use math in calculating formulas such as percentage change, price-to-earnings ratios, and investment yields. This course also gives students the opportunity to use Microsoft Excel as an analysis and productivity tool. Current issues involving the stock market and investing will also be presented. Successful completion of this course will enable students to fulfill the financial literacy graduation requirement.
